BMJ Case Rep Published online: [please include Day Month Year] doi:10.1136/ bcr-2014-207464 DESCRIPTION We present a case of a 69-year-old woman who was initially admitted due to a fall and was treated for an infective exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), severe acute kidney injury and left femoral condyle fracture. These issues resolved and the fracture was managed conservatively. By then the patient had been a hospital inpatient for 3 weeks. She was stable, awaiting social services input and discharge planning.

Long-term outcome of transfemoral thrombectomy in patients with acute iliofemoral vein thrombosis
Abstract Background: The optimal therapy of acute iliofemoral venous thrombosis is still a matter of debate. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the late results of iliofemoral thrombectomy with regard to the prevention of the development of a Post Thrombotic Syndrome (PTS). Methods: During 2000-2003, 18 patients underwent transfemoral venous thrombectomy for acute iliofemoral venous thro...
متن کاملImpedance plethysmography: the relationship between venous filling and sensitivity and specificity for proximal vein thrombosis.
We investigated the hypothesis that the diagnostic accuracy of impedance plethysmography (IPG) for thrombosis of the popliteal or more proximal veins increases with enhanced venous filling. Venous filling was increased by prolonging cuff occlusion and by sequential testing. IPG and vengography were performed on 169 legs with and 317 legs without proximal vein thrombosis. The sensitivity and spe...
متن کاملCavernous Sinus and Generalized Venous Thrombosis Following Rhinoplasty in a Young Patient
Venous thromboembolism at lower age groups and in the absence of other known risk factors should raise doubt of underlying genetic disorders and thombophilia. It is discovered unexpectedly in various medical procedures and may cause severe complications and life threatening problems. In the current study, potentially life threatening complications of a genetic disorder in a previously healthy...
متن کاملSpontaneous Intracranial Hypotension Plus Cerebral Venous Thrombosis: A Case Report Study
This is a case study of a 34-year-old woman who was admitted to hospital with a history of severe orthostatic headache. She was diagnosed as having spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) by undetectable cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure at lumbar puncture, and with evidence of diffuse dural enhancement of the brain detected by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, the contrast-enhance...

Background: Venous thromboembolism, which comprises deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism and is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality among patients with cancer. The aim of the present study was to report a rare presentation of arterial thrombosis after venous thrombosis in a patient with gastric cancer. Report of the Case: A 45 year-old female patient with locally advanced gas...
متن کاملPlasma 125 I-labelled fibrinogen clearance in diagnosis of deep venous thrombosis after myocardial infarction.
Plasma 125I-labelled fibrinogen clearance has been determined in 72 patients with myocardial infarction. No significant variation in clearance rates was observed whether or not deep venous thrombosis of the legs occurred. It is suggested that 125I-labelled fibrinogen clearance from the plasma is influenced by the degree of fibrinogen accumulation in the heart and by the degree of stability of t...
